A year ago tonight, the band played the final show of their Antipodean tour in Auckland. Unbeknownst to them, with the Covid pandemic gathering momentum, it was to be their last gig of 2020. More importantly, though, it would be the final Stranglers’ gig that Dave Greenfield played before his sad & untimely passing that May. It marked the end of an era for the band. We’ll never forget you Dave, your legacy lives on in our hearts. Fond adieu, fly straight xxx

In a break from the norm, Baz & JJ don’t actually answer any fan questions this episode. Following discussing the tour postponement, they got to reminiscing about Dave & we thought everyone would prefer to hear those memories uninterrupted on this occasion. If you want to suggest a possible question for a future Rat Chat, please email it to them at jjandbazratchat@gmail.com
Make yourself comfortable, raise a glass to Dave & enjoy RC#4

Later this year, following the pandemic enforced absence of gigs, the band head out to Europe for an extensive tour from the end of October until early December, visiting 11 different countries across the continent en route. The exciting schedule clocks in at a massive 23 gigs and sees the band visit several countries that they seldom, or never, gig in. Kicking off at the previously announced Sinner’s Day festival in Belgium, the itinerary takes in a Netherlands gig, a Denmark show, 3 in Sweden, 2 in Poland and then on to Hungary and Slovakia for a date in each. Next are 2 Italian shows & 1 in Switzerland before a trio of German gigs and the tour then finishes up in 7 dates in France. Tickets go onsale soon and we will post links as soon as we have them. See you out there…

We are, once again, incredibly saddened to confirm that we have had no alternative but to reschedule the planned 2021 spring tour. This decision has not been taken lightly, especially as the tour has already been moved back, but the ongoing issues surrounding the Covid pandemic are continuing to play havoc with live music. Due to the uncertainty around the tightening of lockdown regulations in the UK and the rollout of the vaccinations over the coming months, it was decided that the tour should be postponed until early 2022. It has been an immense challenge to move the tour again but ultimately we are determined to make it happen as planned from the outset.
After almost a year of inactivity on the road, the band are all chomping at the bit to get back to playing live but their safety, as well as that of the crew and fans, is of paramount importance. All purchased tickets remain valid for the new dates. We hope you understand that we have been left with no other choice and, believe us, we share your disappointment. Look forward to seeing you all on the road next year.

Thankfully we’ve finally reached the end of 2020, here’s to a better new year for us all. On her BBC 6 Music show yesterday, Liz Kershaw played a snippet of a new track ‘If Something’s Gonna Kill Me’. Although it’s only an excerpt of the song, it’s a lovely taste of things to come with the band’s new material. Have a listen here (it plays at about 1 hour 50 minutes in)
