Chris Green (1955-2015)

We are saddened to hear news of the passing of Chris Green, Finchley Boy, today. His close friend Steve Hillier gas sent us the following tribute:

‘I first met Chris at Chapel Court, East Finchley in the early 60s. We hit it off straight away &, along with Alan Warne and my Brother Alan, we spent our days exploring the old dump and rough waste grounds left from the War. Chris’ dad was in the Army and they moved to Cyprus for a while and when he game back we started where we left off. Chris’ nickname was ‘Buster Green’ and he called me ‘Lord Hillier’, I never understood why! We both went to Alder School along with most of the other Finchleys. We got into music, Chris loved his guitar and played in a band with Alan and a couple of other lads. Then it all changed. We went to the Torrington on 14th November 1976 to see some band and our lives changed forever. Chris had a number of firsts. He was the first of us to be a dad at 18, he was the first to be a grand dad and, amazingly, the first to be a Great Grandfather. We worked together on many tours doing the Merch in the 80s. He had an infectious laugh and a great sense of humour. He loved his family & The Stranglers and will be sorely missed’.

At Chris Green’s funeral the following tribute from JJ was read out in his absence:

‘Another star disappears from the firmament.¬†Another smile consigned to my memory.¬† And he did have a smile. He had laughing eyes. I always thought he was dangerous but in fact he was part of our little band of brothers and we were glad to have him on our side. Rest in peace Chris. Keep everyone happy until we join you. JJ’

RIP Chris, fly straight with perfection…
