An open letter to the Familyinblack from Pam Greenfield

As most people know I rarely air my views about what I see on social media about The Stranglers. However, I feel that it is time I said a few words due to the upcoming European and British tours.

Just because I’m usually quiet doesn’t mean I don’t watch. Unfortunately, I have seen a lot of venom about previous members of the band. Please take into consideration that although Hugh, Paul and John have since left the fold they were all integral parts of a massive jigsaw puzzle that was/is The Stranglers. All of them decided when they should leave. I am pleased to have been able to know all of them and still consider them as friends and brothers. Then Baz, who has been a family member longer than Hugh or Paul, is one of the best guitarists I have ever seen live and introduced “new life” in the live band when he joined .  And of course, there’s Jim, who was mentored and fully supported by Jet when he became too ill to tour. The band wouldn’t still exist if it wasn’t for their integral participation and I think we should all be grateful for the fact that they were a part of The Stranglers family.

Which now brings me to the next point…I hope all of you can find it in your hearts to welcome the new keyboard player to The Stranglers family.

Unfortunately, Dave, I suppose, picked his time to leave us all. There is no magic wand I can wave to change the past, believe me, if I could I would. But I do believe he will be watching, nodding approval and wanting the best reception for his acolyte from all of you. Also, please remember that Dave wasn’t the first keyboardist in The Stranglers…

Although, it will be difficult for me seeing the band play again, I know that I must to heal my own wounds and show support for my family and welcome the newest member with open arms. I hope you can all do the same.

Hope to see all of you, somewhere, sometime on the British tour.

Sincerely,

Pam
