Darrell Bath RIP

I’ve just heard of the untimely death of my friend Darrell Bath. It’s been a while since I’ve seen him but I had the privilege of playing with him many times…particularly up in Scotland, and have many fond memories of whisky soaked nights on Arran and Bute…jamming, drinking and howling with laughter… he was a funny man…
One of those lovely, lyrical guitar players who always appeared to be on the edge of ramshackle, but always knew exactly what he was doing,he was a very talented musician, always playing lovely old vintage Gibson guitars…and knew how to drink too… real old school.
Rest in peace mate…raising one to you as we speak.

European tour changes

We are disappointed to announce that, due to ongoing local covid concerns & travel restrictions across the continent, we have to greatly alter our scheduled European tour later this year. In discussions with the various local promoters, it was decided that we have no choice but to reschedule the majority of the tour until mid to late 2022 and we will provide details of the new shows later this week. However, it was felt that, with only one border crossing to undertake, fewer entry & exit requirements and having multiple shows in the same country, we would be able to proceed with the French run as planned. The details for these seven shows remain unaffected. We apologise for having to postpone the preceding dates but we feel that, with the concerns expressed above, it would be unsafe for the band, the crew and the fans that the other shows proceed this year. All tickets will be valid for the rescheduled gigs.

Dark Matters chart position…

After all the build up and bated breath, the Official UK Chart has just been announced today. Dark Matters charted at an amazing number 4, making it the band’s best performing studio album since Feline peaked at the same position 38 years ago!

Congratulations to the band on such a fantastic achievement against all the odds. It’s been a brilliant campaign with huge amounts of press and a wealth of video content, with track chats, promo videos and acoustic versions.

Thanks also go to Louie for the fantastic job he did pulling the album together in such testing circumstances, Sil and the management team for their sterling work behind the scenes, the Outside Organisation for the PR, Simon for assisting with social media and Phil for the stunning artwork. It’s been a true team effort.

Huge thanks to the fans around the world who have parted with their hard earned money to support the band and bought the album in their thousands.

Most importantly, hitting such a lofty chart position has done Dave proud. Cheers x

Dark Matters at number 1 *

* currently in the UK iTunes Rock Chart

The band’s new studio album Dark Matters is riding high in the UK chart. It was an number 3 in the Official UK Chart’s midweeks, leading them to describe it as ‘the band’s most successful album since 1978’. It has been making a great showing against some very stiff competition, like Iron Maiden and the Manics, which makes it an even more impressive feat. Ahead of the release, critical reviews were very positive and encouraging and it’s fantastic to see this translate into actual sales.

On behalf of the band, we’d like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support and for giving Dave’s musical swansong a fittingly high chart placing. If you haven’t bought it yet, there’s still time to grab a physical copy or a download via this link

Dark Matters out today!

The day we’ve been waiting for has finally arrived… The band’s new studio album, their eighteenth, Dark Matters is finally unleashed on the world today. Clearly, it is bittersweet release as it’s the swansong of the legend that is Dave Greenfield, following his untimely passing last year. The band felt compelled to complete the album as a tribute to Dave and his distinctive keyboards feature on eight tracks. As always with a new Stranglers album, it’s musically diverse, from full on rockers to melancholy acoustic pieces, there’s even a hint of opera!!! Lyrically, there are some poignant & heartfelt moments, reflecting on ageing and the loss of DG. The album has received amazing press reviews, from Mojo, Louder Than War, Vive Le Rock and many others. We think it’s a masterpiece and we hope you do too…

PS Don’t forget that the deluxe download including the four exclusive Dark Matters acoustic sessions tracks is available from today for £4.99 (or £3.99 via emailed code if you pre-ordered the album) at the Stranglers Official store here

Lucy Jarrett RIP

It’s with great sadness that I learned of the passing of my dear friend Lucy Jarret yesterday.

In 2005 myself and JJ took a house in Looe, Cornwall, for a month to write material for what would become Suite 16.
